How to plan your next career move

A goal on its own — “get a better job” — is hard to act on. A goal with four to eight dated milestones tells you what to do this week. The career planner keeps both together, saved to your Expertini account so you can pick it up on any device.

1. Write the goal as an outcome

Name the role or result you want and, if you can, a target date: “Move into a junior data analyst role by next September”. Add your current role so the plan starts from where you really are.

2. Break it into milestones you can tick off

Each milestone should leave something behind that you could mention in an interview — a finished course, a project, an updated CV, ten applications sent. Give each one a due date; the planner shows what is due in the next 30 days and what is overdue.
